Pathways to Excellence: Responsive Teaching (3 parts)

Exploring strategies to support responsive teaching and develop progress for all learners

Outline

Join us for this three-day course to explore the importance of using responsive teaching to shape the curriculum and meet the needs of learners.

Description

Please be aware this is a 3 day course - 17th September 2019, 30th October 2019 & 6th December 2019.

This course will explore the theory and practice behind responsive teaching at both a classroom and whole school level.

Day one will focus on the concepts of knowledge and curriculum. Using a range of theoretical perspectives, we will explore how teachers can identify what key concepts, facts and skills they want to teach. We will also explore how knowledge organisers can be used to sequence learning before exploring strategies to identify prior learning.

The second day of the course will focus on using responsive teaching in practice. Teachers will examine the construction of lesson intentions and success criteria. We will also look at the importance of modelling and metacognition in the classroom. In the afternoon, teachers will explore strategies to check pupils’ understanding including hinge questions.

The final day will focus on feedback and marking. Teachers are invited to bring samples of marked work to the session to facilitate discussions. We will also consider how peer and self-critique can be used to deepen learning. In the afternoon, delegates will be able to apply the principles from the whole course to a teaching unit of their choice.

Please note that this course will cover a wide range of subjects, including the foundation subjects.

Cost: Training SLA (6 credits for three days) / £405 for three days. Non-SLA Schools £525 for three days.

Where participants have registered and are accepted onto courses there is an expectation that they will contact schoolsupportcourses@luton.gov.uk to cancel their place (within forty eight working hours of the course start time) if they are unable to attend. It is the responsibility of the attendee to sign the register otherwise this will count as non-attendance. Failure to do so will result in being charged for the delegate place.
