Support for Professionals working with Previously Looked After Children

Outline

The course will look at what is meant by previously LAC, roles and responsibilities, why children and young people who were previously LAC may be vulnerable and strategies that can be used to support them.

Description

'A key part of the Designated Teacher's role is ensuring that they, and other school staff have strong awareness, training and skills around the specific needs of previously looked after children, and how to support them. As part of this, designated teachers should proactively build strong links with the VSH to access training and keep up to date with research and good practice.' - The Designated Teacher for looked after and previously looked after children statutory guidance on their roles and responsibilities February 2018.

Cost: Funded

Where participants have registered and are accepted onto courses there is an expectation they will cancel their place, via the schoolsupport.luton.gov.uk website or will contact schoolsupportcourses@luton.gov.uk (within forty eight working hours Mon-Fri of the course start time) if they are unable to attend. Failure to cancel place/attend will result in being charged £25 per delegate place.

Delegates who attend this session without booking a place will be charged £25.00 per place in addition to any course fee.

Outcomes

Designated Teachers and school staff will have an improved understanding of the needs of previously looked after children and strategies that can be used in school to support them.
